Our mission is to keep the Waldorf spirit alive between classmates who have been a part of the Live Oak Family over the years. We are so curious what you have been up to and how your life has unfolded since you graduated 8th Grade. We hope that you will take the time to sign up for our quarterly newsletter and complete our alumni questionnaire.

Q: Where did you go to high school?
A: I went to Sacramento Waldorf School for high school.

Q: What have you been doing since graduating from high school?
A: I went to college and received a BA in Psychology, then in graduate school I earned a degree in Gender Studies.

Q: Are you married? When? What is your spouse's name?
A. Yes. Derek Rubinstein and I were married in 2018.

Q: Do you have any children? What ages?
A: We have a son, Mason, who is a year and a half.

Q: Where do you live now? What are you doing there?
A: I live in Corte Madera, in Marin County where I am the Director of Education at Caulbridge School.

Q: Did you have a favorite field trip when at Live Oak? What made it so?

A: One of my favorite field trips was to Malakoff Diggins in fourth grade where we dressed in 1850’s period clothing, camped for four days, and visited the preserved town of North Bloomfield. We participated in some activities of that era (I had a secret crush on the blacksmith), mined for gold, and walked through a tunnel made from the hydraulic mining.

Q: Do you have a story you want to share about your time at Live Oak?

A: Well. . . one story is from second grade when a fellow student, who with some other boys, had uncovered an old dump site on the property where the early childhood village is now, plugged an old cord into a socket and lit up the room.

Q: In what ways do you notice the impact of your Waldorf Education and experience at Live Oak showing up in your life now?

A: We had six girls in our class and eighteen boys, and I really appreciated the girls’ talks we would have beginning around sixth grade. Miss Poirier helped us learn how to communicate about our feelings. That shows up in my profession now as I work with the teachers in my school. I also, just yesterday, pulled out some of my Main Lesson Books from middle school to share some examples with my teachers for their students’ work.

Q: What are you most grateful for about your Live Oak years?

A: It felt like an extended family, which was important to me because my family then was just my mom and me. I’m glad we had Miss Poirier for eight years.

Q: Do you keep in touch with any of your Live Oak classmates?

A: I do keep in touch with a few from Live Oak, particularly those who went to Sacramento Waldorf with me. Our Live Oak class seemed to quickly spread out geographically.

Q: Have you been back to the school for any activities such as the Pumpkin Path, Holiday Faire, May Faire, graduations?

A: Not for many years. However, I want to bring my son to the Pumpkin Path in the upcoming years.

Q: Would you be interested to attend if an event was held at the school that was specific for alumni?

A: Yes! I would even help organize it!

Q: Share some exciting or unusual experiences, hobbies, travels, you have had.

A: For many years after college, I was busy building a school, but two years ago, my husband and I took my mom to Italy and Greece, which was fantastic.
