Sara Casler Alumnus Live Oak Waldorf School
“Sara Casler, member of the first graduating class of Live Oak and current parent of a Live Oak student, said it is “a dream” that her son attends Live Oak, as the Live Oak community prepared her for not only high school, but college. “[Live Oak] really engendered a love of learning,” Casler said. “There was never a day where I was like, ‘I don’t like school.’ Never once.

… When everybody was taking that ‘western civ’ class for the first time and trying to understand the ‘Iliad’ and ‘Odyssey’ it was all a review for me. I was able to get deeper into analysis and not worry about just understanding the text for the first time.”

“I love having Live Oak Waldorf kids in my classroom! They are so well rounded, centered, artistic and curious, which is the kind of student we want to see at Colfax High School. Waldorf students are versed in inquiry based learning and consistently create fantastic projects and presentations!”

“A sense of belonging, high expectations, caring adults, a chance to fail and bounce back, honoring a diversity of talents... research has shown these elements are important to creating successful, resilient adults.  At Live Oak, these things aren’t buzz words or something to “try to add", they exist in the fabric of the school, it is simply what the school does. The daily morning handshake with eye contact, the long, in-depth stories and lessons, sensory integration/coordination games, presentations in front of the class, end of the day chores, nature, art, theater, music, dance… all these Waldorf experiences created capacities in my boys that continue to grow and shine in ways both hoped for as well as unforeseen.

My children and their Live Oak peers are thriving and inspiring others. Yet life will bring inevitable trials and hardships so I am grateful to Live Oak for giving them compassion, an ability to see and create beauty in the world, caring friends and experiences of deep joy and contentment. Live Oak is sustenance for the entire journey, life is so much more than an aptitude test.  ”
